INFANTS-5 YEARS OLD
Welcome to Mainstreet for infants and children to 5 years old.
Infants & Toddlers
We know that leaving your new baby for the first time can be overwhelming. The volunteers in our infant classrooms have been chosen for this age group because of their love for babies and their training to care for all of the needs of your infant. We hope that the following information will help you and your baby have a great experience on Sunday morning.
Please bring labeled diapers, bottles, pacifiers, and any special blankets that will soothe your baby through the morning. As you complete the sign-in sheet located outside your baby’s classroom make sure to list any details concerning feeding and napping schedules. To ensure that your baby receives the best care, we adhere to a one volunteer to every three children ratio in our infant and crawler classrooms. As your baby develops and begins speed crawling and walking, your child’s teacher will guide you through the promotion process into our Toddler room.
2 – 5 year Olds
These are fun and active stages in your child’s life. We are excited to have him/her in BIGtown and look forward to teaching them. If you would like to know what your child is learning, please pick up a copy of the Small Talk cards located on the tables outside the classrooms. You are the best teacher for your child, so use the activities to talk about God with them all week at home. Please read the information below to help us make sure your child’s Sunday is GREAT!
Our curriculum is centered on three basic truths: God loves them, God made them, and Jesus wants to be their friend forever. We focus on one of these basic truths each month. We believe in an active, hands-on approach with our kids! Sunday morning is divided into several segments: As soon as they walk in the door, they participate in a MAKE IT FUN activity that is designed to grab their attention. They will then hear a creative presentation of the Bible story and participate in worship, where they are encouraged to sing and interact with their leaders. Following the worship and story time, they will go to their small groups for a brief time to talk about what they’ve learned that day and what it means to their young lives. They will also pray together as we teach them what it means to talk to God. During the last part of their morning, they will participate in several creative, fun activities designed to help them better understand the key truth of the day through a hands-on experience.
To ensure that our classrooms are safe and to create the best possible learning environments, we adhere to a ratio of one volunteer for every five children in our 2-5 year old classes. We provide toys, activities, and snacks in the classrooms. We usually serve Graham Crackers, Ritz and Cheerios. If we are serving something else, you will find a note posted on the door outside of your child’s classroom informing you of the new food item. If your child has any allergies or special dietary needs and cannot eat what we have provided, please inform the teachers and bring appropriate snacks for them. Be sure to bring extra diapers and a change of clothes. Label all items, including cups, snacks, diapers, pacifiers, etc. If your child is potty training, please be sure to communicate that to the teacher. We ask that they wear pull-ups to the classroom. Volunteers are never allowed in the bathrooms alone with a child. They will assist them with clothing (as needed) and with handwashing once two volunteers are present.
Your child will be promoted to the next classroom when they have their birthday. (Exception: Promotion will take place at the end of the school year for 5 year olds.) As your child graduates out of our Main Street Program to our City Limits Program we want to mark this time as a milestone and celebrate with your family as you prepare for a new stage of life.
